Timber lengths (cut to 50 x14cm), sandpaper, wood dye (optional)

The Mid Century Plant Stand comes from Burkatron. It requires a small amount of woodworking experience and the few tools of the trade, but for the most part, anyone can create this project at home. It only requires two boards and some tricky cuts to have a stable plant stand that can last a lifetime.

16. Trash Can Plant Stand from Homeyohmy

Tools: Tape, marker
Supplies: Mesh

The Trash Can Plant Stand is brought to us by Homeyohmy. This plan teaches you how to build a plant stand that might just be the easiestst projects you can ask for and only requires an old wire wastebasket, fabric, and glue. You can build it in about 15 minutes and customize it endlessly. It’s durable and will most likely outlast you.

17. DIY Tiered Plant Stand from Woodshop Diaries

Tools: Miter Saw (or any saw that can cut straight lines), Drill/Driver, measuring tape, clamp
Supplies: Scrap 2x2s, Scrap 2×8 pieces, 2 ½″ wood screws

This neat and orderly tiered plant stand is fairly easy to make with standard woodworking tools, providing three spaces for pots or other plant vessels. The plan notes that heavier pots shouldn’t be placed on the top to prevent the structure from becoming top-heavy or tipping over, so be careful.

If three tiers aren’t enough for you, the plan has that covered too. It details how to branch off the tiers and create a whole network of plants, but the layout design is 100% up to you. If you’d like, you can also customize how far apart the tiers are, their height, and other measurements too.

18. Floating Plant Shelf from Place of My Taste

Tools: Scissors
Supplies: Round wooden plate, yarn

Running out of shelves or space for plants? This floating plant shelf might be just the thing to fix your problem while looking gorgeous. You simply need a round piece of wood and macrame/yarn, and some deft hands.

Ideally, you should place this near a window that gets plenty of natural light, or you can build several of them for empty spots around the house. You can add decorative knots, beads, or other personal touches woven into the design if you wish. The sky’s the limit!

19. Raw Edge Concrete Plant Stand from Lily Ardor

Tools: Miter Saw  (optional or Handsaw), Sander, Smallish Flat head screw driver, Smallish hammer
Supplies: Concrete (quick setting is optional), Dowell  (or long stick), Bucket (for the plant stand top), Bucket  (for mixing), Wood Stain  (of your choice), Tape, Paper, Spray paint

For a more functional, utilitarian plant stand, consider building one of these raw-edged concrete plant stands at home today. It requires minimal materials and even tools if you can get the legs cut to length. If not, even a handsaw can make those simple cuts to get the job done.

Practice makes perfect with this plan because the creator notes that the raw edge effect takes some time to perfect. Expect to spend some time figuring out the best way to make your perfect tabletop, or just leave it plain if you want.

20. Modern A-Frame Plant Stand from Handmade Haven

Tools: Ridgid OCTANE Circular Saw, Brad Nailer, Drill, Impact Drill, Kreg Jig, Right Angle Clamp
Supplies: 5 – 2 x 2 x 8ft, 3 – 1 x 4 x 8ft, 1 – 4ft x 8ft – 3/4″ piece of plywood, 1 – 1 x 2 scrap wood, Golden Hinges, Brad Nails, Wood Glue, 2 1/2″ Pocket Hole Screws, Varathane Golden Oak, Folk Art Chalk Paint – Parisan Grey

You’ll need some carpentry skills and power tools to construct this classic A-frame plant stand, but it’s actually a nice straightforward beginner project. Building the frame is the hardest part, and you could always use some old drawers as your shelves rather than building your own boxes.

The result is roomy enough for several small pots on both tiers, but you could expand the project to more tiers if your skills are up to snuff. Wood stain is recommended but not strictly required if you want to leave it unfinished for a rustic look.

21. DIY Ladder Plant Stand from The Merry Thought

Tools: Tape measure, table saw, belt sander or sand paper, framing square, drill and drill bits, nail gun & compressor
Supplies: 1x8x10 foot pine board, mitre box, 1×2 pine boards – 2, wood glue, polyurethane finish (if desired)

Struggling with plant organization? This ladder-style plant stand is easy to make with cheap wood or even scraps of the right dimensions. You’ll need to make a few simple cuts and do some careful nailing, but the plan is very thorough and walks you through every step with pictures for reference.

At the end of it all, you’ll have a pretty compact three-tiered plant stand that’s perfect for showing off prized plants. At a bare minimum, we recommend sanding the stand to remove splinters, but priming and painting it is certainly a viable option too.

22. Plant Stand Throne by The Lovely Drawer

Plant Stand Throne by The Lovely Drawer
Tools: Stanley knife, pencil, ruler, scissors
Supplies: Balsa wood strips ( mine were 3mm thick ), Embroidery thread, Plant pots (it helps to choose pots with a lip around the top so that this can rest on the top of the frame & keep it in place), Spray paint in the colours of your choice

Among the more basic plants on our list, these plant stand thrones are a great way to turn balsa wood and twine into charming boho plant homes. You’ll need to do some math to make these fit your pots, and the trickiest part is slicing your grooves for the twine to fit.

Pots with lips at the top are the best candidates for these thrones because they’re easy to put in and take out as needed, but you can make this plan work with nearly any pot as long as you’re careful with your measurements.

23. Copper Round Plant Stand from Darling Darleen

Tools: Black sharpie, tape measure
Supplies: Copper pipes, Copper Coil, Copper Cutter, 4 x Copper Tee part, E6000 glue, plant pot with plant

Looking for something more ornate to cradle your plants? This copper round plant stand is deceptively easy to make, and it works with nearly any diameter copper pipe you may have on hand.  A really neat thing you can do with this plan is craft multiple stands at varying heights to make a ‘set,’ but it’s really up to you how you end up using the stands to display plants.

Bear in mind that these stands will develop a greenish patina over time, so you might want to seal it with a protective clear coat to preserve the nice copper sheen over time.
